Alteration and Refurbishment

This is the conversion of an old hotel; a heritage building in Muizenberg Village which is an urban conservation area.  The building was converted into two 2-bedroomed apartments and one 3-bedroomed duplex. This was a personal development undertaken with my husband (also an architect and the contractor in this case) and a partner. 

Although the intention was to let the apartments, effort was made to use contemporary details that are sensitive, but in many cases contrasting, to the heritage nature of the building.  Forged wall railings, contemporary staircase and bulkhead details,double volumes and exposed trusses as well as bathrooms and kitchen fitouts using beautiful materials ensure that design adds value to the refurbishment.
